Despite the global backlash against SRHR and an increasing anti-women’s rights sentiment entering European decision-making spaces, the past year saw financial and political commitments of European donors being solidified. SRH/FP funding largely remained protected, even where cuts to Official Development Assistance were made.
This factsheet looks at the policy and financial trends for the year (financial data for 2017, policy updates for 2018) for a selected group of European donor countries who use development aid to also champion sexual and reproductive health, including family planning.
2019 will mark the 25th anniversary of the ground-breaking International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and its Programme of Action, a key opportunity for European governments to reaffirm their commitment to SRH/FP.
