Working towards new additional funding for SRH/FP in the EU Annual Budget 2018

Countdown 2030 Europe Brussels-based partners successfully proposed amendments to the EU Annual Budget 2018 on human development. The Annual Budget is a key instrument to ensure that EU commitments towards Sexual and Reproductive Health and Family Planning (SRH/FP) effectively translate into its development cooperation programming.

Partners worked in collaboration with various political groups in the European Parliament (one of the three institutions negotiating the budget) to propose amendments to increasing the funding made available to the “Human Development” budget line within the Development Cooperation Instrument. The budget line referring to “Human Development” covers various thematics, one of them being SRH/FP under Health. The amendments submitted by MEPs asked for an increase of between €20 and €74 million. The vote is scheduled for October 2017.
